Green Bee-eater, merops orientalis, in another lifer I am going to learn how to really photograph birds. This little bird is plentiful and somewhat tame so I could catch him from a vehicle hand holding my lens.

Indian Robin
The Indian Robin (Saxicoloides fulicata ) is a species of bird in the Muscicapidae family or flycatcher. It is widespread in the Indian Subcontinent and a year round resident. I was told, quite firmly, that this is a "true" robin unlike our American Robin Redbreast (Turdus migratorius), which is a migratory songbird of the thrush family, and only named after the European Robin because of its reddish-orange breast.

Eurasian Eagle Owl
Towards the end of our stay in India we were treated to some bird watching from the water. I was astonished that we could see this gorgeous owl. Bubo bubo is one of the worlds largest owls, his wingspan can reach 74 inches. This is male because his "ears" are so upright. He might be about to snatch a heron, as other birds are prey of this owl.

Indian Pond Heron
The Indian Pond Heron or Paddybird is usually seen hunkered down and appears chunky, here her neck is extended. The birds camouflage is excellent and when in tall grass is almost invisible. It was dry season and the birds were numerous in reduced water.

Gray Langur Monkey with Baby.
These beautiful monkeys are very populous in India and one sees them everywhere. They have adapted to all habitats including human settlements. With their little black face, huge eyes, "hands" and serious expressions I could not help but connect to them.

Plum Headed Parakeet
The brightly colored or blossom colored head of this individual points him out as a male. The Plum Headed Parakeet is endemic in India and it is also kept as a pet. Escaped birds have shown up in New York and Florida as well as the Middle East. They are noisy, gregarious and playful.

Indian Elephant
We did not get to see elephants in the wild in India, we only saw them with their mahouts in the park. There was a documentarian there making a movie about the tigers and going into the park on an elephant at dawn. The elephant flushed a tigress protecting her kill. it was a moment of great excitement but most of missed the shot.

This shy little cat was pouncing in the leaves after prey. I thought she was a kitten but our guide said she was a mature jungle cat. There are fifteen species of wild cat in India.

Jungle Cat Watching Prey
This little cat blended in totally with her environment. I would not have known she was a Jungle Cat. Indiawilds has a Youtube video of the same cat and say a sighting is rare in Bandhavgarh where we spotted her.

Indian Roller Bird, Banhavgarh
Very visible on bare branches or wires, these beautiful birds fly to the ground to catch their food. They are attracted to fire. We watched as a park employee burned leaves and these birds had a feast of the insects that lept out of the smouldering mass.

Lesser Adjutant Stork and Spotted Deer
The stork benefits from the deer's ground pawing because it exposes insects that the stork eats. To my eyes this pairing was quite comical looking and I love the name Lesser Adjutant Stork.

Hanuman and Tree
He's almost not there at all, just his elegant paws or as I think of them "hands" wrapping around the tree trunk as this gray Langur climbs up.
