Weigela Florida, the Garden's location between two rivers makes it a microclimate ideal for more tropical plants.

Blue Poppy
The Himalayan blue poppy is a symbol of Reford Gardens. Originating in the Tsang Po Gorge, in the south-east corner of Tibet, it usually grows at an altitude of 10,200 to 13,100 feet. The humid air and cool evenings make it blooms here possible.

The Azalea Walk
July in Elsie Reford's Garden displays a panoply of beautifully colored azaleas. Grand -Métis is normally too cool for this plant, but these are protected by being in a dell. Still they grow in a more compact form than they would normally.

Yellow Day Lilies
"Elsie Reford's Scree Garden was modest. But in it she displayed her favourite alpines, planted around carefully selected stones and in the fine gravel, which is their home...." Alexander Reford

Blue Poppy
My chance with the blue poppies. They were backlit and blowing around non-stop in the wind.

When Elsie Reford planted these blue poppies they were imported from the Himalayas. These are actually Himalayan blue poppies and they flourish in the cool climes of Quebec

Diving Humpback Whale
The region where Charlevoix meets the Saguenay Fjord is rich in marine life and one of Canada's most popular whale watching spots. We had a pure blue day and saw many marine mammals. I think this is a humpback diving.

Approaching the Fjord Near Tadoussac
Where the St. Lawrence meets the Saguenay River the 'upwelling' forces, at the head of the fjord near Tadoussac, are concentrating food along the 'tide lines' where both whales and seabirds gather to feed.

Tadoussac from the St. Lawrence
The St. Lawrence Meet the Saguenay river. This water is so productive and pristine. this is also a place with history, it being the place where the Europeans made contact with the First Nations in the 1600's.

The Old Artist's House
Charlevoix was formed by the impact of a giant meteor billions of years ago. The crater is what forms the biosphere now with it's mix of people and nature. The rugged landscape was a favourite of the most famous exhibitors’ group in Canada, the Group of Seven, starting in the 1920's and led by A.Y. Jackson.

Dale the Border Collie
My travel buddy's cousin left Wall Street to start his own farm and raise and train Border Collies. I was overwhelmed by the pristine serenity he'd created. This is Dale, his personal animal companion.

Warren's Place
This is the herd of sheep that the Border Collies herd around. Dale is incredibly skilled at this and res ponds to Warren's spoken commands brilliantly.

I don't see any horns, so these must be ewes. Check out the tiny little black and white head in the background, Dale on the job.
